Howard J. Snyder, of Owatonna died May 10, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church (512 – S. Elm Ave.) in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family on Friday, May 12 from 5-7 PM at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Road Owatonna) and one hour prior to the funeral liturgy. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
Howard was born July 23, 1930 in Canton, MN the son of Clair and Ellen (Grossman) Snyder. Howard graduated from Preston High School in 1949. Howard worked for his father in the family business which was the Preston Nursery and Apple Orchard.
In 1951 Howard enlisted in the United States Air Force and served twenty-one years at various Air Force bases in Texas, Illinois, Virginia, England, Michigan, Alaska, Hawaii, and Alabama; retiring in June, 1972. He then was employed by the Mayo Clinic/St Mary's Hospital for 18 years.
Howard was always active in his church, volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Usher through the years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Air Force Sergeants Association and the American Legion.
Howard was preceded in death by his first wife, Caroline, and son Jeffery in September, 1972; his second wife, Rita, in March, 2000; and son, Joseph, in January, 2001. Also preceding him in death were one brother and six sisters.
Survivors include wife, Jeneane; sons Jim, John, Jason (Moriah), and Jared, daughters Janice, June (Randy) and Jolene (Jay): two step-sons Michael (Regina) and Tom (Eve); seventeen grandchildren, as well as five step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins
