Jack Swank, 88, of Danville, went home to be with the Lord and his wife on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Gardenview Manor in Tilton with his family by his side.
A Celebration of Catholic Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 1, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut Street, in Danville, with Father Bowen officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior on Monday at the church from 10-11 a.m.
Jack was born on Feb. 7, 1929, in Danville, to Raymond and Coeena (Dolan) Swank. He attended Garfield and St. Patrick's grade schools and Danville High School, graduating in 1947. Jack proudly served in the US Army from 1950-1952. Upon his return from the service, he worked at Lauhoff Grain Company for over 35 years until his retirement in 1991. Jack was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and in his free time enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, going to Cubs games, and donating his time as a redcoat for the hospital.
Jack married the love of his life, Rita Ann Vacketta, on Nov. 20, 1954 and the two shared nearly 44 years together before her passing in 1998. Jack leaves behind four children: Kelly (Norm) Burton, Judith (Charles) Harlan, Kay (Robert) Swank-Herzog, and Scott (Bonnie) Swank; five grandchildren: Michael, Jessica, Trevor, Vacketta, and Isaac; and three great-grandchildren: Cooper, Beatrice, and Aidin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his wife.
