Thomas E. Reidy, 87, of Kearney, died Monday, April 17, 2017 at Kearney Regional Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 with Fr. Joseph Hannappel officiating. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery with Military Rites provided by United States Navy Funeral Honors Team, Kearney American Legion Post #52, and Kearney V.F.W. Post #759. A wake service will be at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church or Kearney Catholic High School Foundation.
Thomas was born November 12, 1929 in Kearney to John and Rose (Cepel). He attended St. James Grade School in Kearney until the family moved to York, Nebraska in 1935, and then graduated from St. Joseph High school in 1947. On June 7, 1947, Tom entered the Navy and served until 1951. Tom married Emily “Jean†Jarecke on September 26, 1953 in St. Paul, Nebraska. They moved to Kearney in 1955. Tom began working at Martin Lumber Company, and became the manager for 18 years. In 1957 Tom and Jean worked together building their home, where they have lived and raised their family for 60 years. In 1985 Tom worked at Builders Warehouse until he retired in 2000. Tom was an active volunteer of his time as a member of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, Kearney V.F.W. Post #759, Kearney Elks Lodge, #984, and Kearney Eagle’s Club #2722. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and was an avid sports fan, especially following Kearney Catholic and Husker Sporting events.
Tom is survived by his wife Emily “Jean†Reidy of Kearney; sons, Patrick Reidy and his wife Pam of St. Louis, MO, Steve Reidy and his wife Kim of Kearney, Greg Reidy and his wife Renae of Kearney, Robert Reidy and his wife Deanna of Kearney; sisters, Judy Nelson of Jacksonville, NC, Kathy Reidy of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Jett Reidy and his wife Cindy, Stevie Reidy, K.C. Reidy, Jace Reidy, Shauna Reinsch and her husband Mannie, Brian Reidy and his fiancée Lindsay DeVries, Brad Reidy and his fiancée Anna Trevino, Brittany Reidy, Kaylei Margheim and her husband Zach, Stacie Gant and her husband Brandon; 9 great grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by two sons Michael and Shawn Reidy, grandson Brandon Reidy, granddaughter Shelby Reidy, and one sister Marilyn Roeder. |
