Joseph H. “Bub” Taylor, 78 of Big Hill died June 15, 2006 at Dubuis Hospital of Beaumont.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2006 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9894 Gilbert Rd., Fannett with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer, Winnie. A gathering of family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Mortuary.

“Bub” was a farmer and rancher who over the years was recognized for some of his many accomplishments which included: Outstanding Young Farmer 1962 of the Golden Triangle; Texas Rice Festival Farmer of the Year 1988; Outstanding Leadership Award twenty-two years service on Hamshire-Fannett School Board; Board of Directors of Capital Farm Credit; retired after thirty-three years of service to the Farm Credit System; Past Director of the Texas Rice Promotion Association, Farm and Ranch Club, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Agriculture Production Credit Association, Federal Land Bank, American Rice Growers Association of Beaumont, Costal Cattleman Association, Farmers Union of Jefferson County; Past member of Jefferson County School Board, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Beaumont Production Credit Association, Knights of Columbus St. Martin’s Council, St. Mary’s Parish Council; Life-time member Third Degree and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; Past Grand Knight of St. Martin’s Council.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Betty Taylor of Big Hill; children, Mary Goss of Channelview, Terry L. Melancon of Hamshire, and Joseph “Joe” H. Taylor, Jr. and his wife Shelly of Big Hill; sister, Helen Ruth Clark of Beaumont; grandchildren, Micah Gill, Judd Melancon and his wife, Jada, Kelli Wood and her husband, Eddie, Kara Melancon, and Carli Jo Taylor; great grandchildren, Brooke Wood, Haydn Wood and Jase Taylor Melancon. “Bub” was preceded in death by his parents , Lillie Bell and Howard Taylor and sister, Lucy Mae Manuel.

The family would like to give special thanks to Pat Craigen, Ted Loupe, Lester Manuel and all who helped us during this difficult time. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the staff of Dubuis Hospital of Beaumont and Herman Memorial Baptist Hospital and their dedicated staff along with Dr. Derderian, Dr. Hood, Dr. Stout and Dr. Chennupati, Dr. Steven Sooudi and all the physicians that helped care for this beloved man.
