BENJAMEN JOHNSON

 

Benjamen “Benjy” Johnson, 67, of Fannett, died Saturday, January 28, 2012, at his residence.

He was born July 19, 1944, in Beaumont, to Frances Marie Linder and Benjamen Ambrose Johnson, and had been a longtime resident of Fannett.He graduated from Hamshire-Fannett High School in 1962.Benjy retired as an operator with DuPont and was a United States Marine Corps Veteran.

Benjy was a man of pride and faith. He married the love of his life, Janell Cahanin, December 23, 1962. He served his country as a proud Marine in Vietnam with Squadron HMM 365, from 1962-1966. He was a dedicated 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 6763 and active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Fannett. Benjy loved gardening; working and cooking in his shop, and spent many hours watching his grandkids participate in their various activities.

He is survived by his wife, Janell Johnson of Fannett; daughters, Terre Breed and her husband, Johnny of LaBelle, Jerre Croley and her husband, Jim of Fannett, Angel Winkler and her husband, Howard of Fannett, and Brandy Simon of Nederland; sister, Sylvia Stone and her husband, Larry of Destin, Florida; mother, Frances Johnson of Destin, Florida; grandchildren, Ryan Leger, Logan Simon, Tristin Croley, Brooke and Joey Barnett, Danielle Winkler, Cole Breed, Josh Breed, and Rikki Winkler; and great granddaughter, Marissa Barnett.

A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 3:00 p.m., with a Christian Vigil at 5:00 p.m., and a Rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9894 Gilbert Road, Fannett with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, with full military honors under the direction of Broussard’s.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Roger Mendoza, New Century Hospice, and the many friends who supported them throughout their time of need.
