NORMAN D. ELDER

 

November 1, 1938 - February 21, 2017

Norman D. Elder, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in San Antonio. He was born on November 1, 1938 in Midway, Ohio to Lindsey N. and Mary (Little) Elder. He attended San Marcos High School (Class of 1957) and received a business degree in 1961 from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.

In 1963, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Navigator/Bombardier. Among his accomplishments, is an appointment by Gov. Bill Clements to serve on the Board of Regents for the Texas State University System (1987-1993); Del Rio Chamber of Commerce President in 1993; 45-year board member on the Westex Bancorp and The Bank and Trust in Del Rio and a board member on Anco Insurance Board in Bryan/College Station.

Norman was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in San Antonio; served as a board member of the Catholic Community Foundation in San Antonio and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

He worked in the family business of Whites Auto Store in San Marcos, Seguin and Del Rio and was a successful Anheuser-Busch distributor for over 25 years in the Del Rio area. He was a true self-made man with an unfailing work ethic who will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Connie See (Tom) and Joan Aline Paxton. Norman is survived by his loving wife, Leticia R. Elder; children, Joe Elder (Laura Jane) and Dana Moore (Jerry); step-children, Marcos Rocky Valdes (Salena) and Elisa Jankly (Chris); grandchildren, Jake Moore, Meredith Moore, Mattie Elder, Liza Elder, Bethany Jankly and Bettina Jankly; brother, Robert Elder (Gloria).

A reception will follow the Mass.
Inurnment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum at 1:30 p.m.
