WILLIAM JOSEPH MCQUAY

 

William Joseph McQuay, age 91, of Sykesville, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Carroll Hospital. Born May 9, 1925, in Charleston, SC he was the son of the late George Washington McQuay and Lorena Genevieve Bennett McQuay. He was the loving husband of Margaret Ann Auer McQuay. William had retired from the federal government. He was involved for many years in health care finance. William served in the US Army during World War II. He received his undergraduate degree from Loyola College and his Juris Doctorate from University of Maryland. Mr. McQuay was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community, Eldersburg and a former member of the West River Yacht Club. He had many pastimes, which included sailing, tennis and golf. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons and daughters-in-law, William J. McQuay, Jr. and Anne Smith of Ithaca, NY, Keith T. and Debbie McQuay of Eldersburg and Barry P. and Pam McQuay of Ellicott City and grandchildren, Patrick, Christine and Katie. He was predeceased by brother, the late George Washington McQuay, Jr. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 5, 2016, from 4 to 7pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral liturgy will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Private interment will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills.
