LUDWIG WENCL

 

Ludwig (Lud) Wencl, 91 lifelong resident of Steele County died Nov. 9, 2016 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Sunday, from 4 – 7 pm at Brick – Meger Funeral Home (1603 – Austin Road, Owatonna) and one hour before the funeral liturgy on Monday. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be said at 7 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
Lud Wencl was born on Dec. 24, 1924 in Blooming Prairie Twp. the son of Alois and Mary (Mikyska) Wencl. He attended country school in District 93 and then graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1943. Lud was united in marriage to Julaine Kloeckner on Aug. 26, 1953 at St. John's Catholic Church in Johnsberg, MN. Together the couple raised six children. Lud worked on the family farm along with his father and continued to farm the family farm until he retired from full time farming in 1991. While farming, Lud also worked for Owatonna Tool Company. In his retirement, he drove the bus for head start program and continued to help out on the family farm. Lud was a member of the Owatonna Knights of Columbus Council 945, the KC Choir, and the Msgr. Henry Speck Assembly, Catholic Workmen, Holy Trinity Church at Litomysl, National Farmer's Organization, and St. Joseph Church. His hobbies included playing concertina and being a member of the Melody Mates Band, collecting toy farm equipment and woodworking.
Ludwig is survived by his wife of 63 yrs. Julaine, Children Tom (Karen) Wencl, Jerry Wencl and Dennis (Mary) Wencl all of Blooming Prairie, Becky (Dennis) Kelm of Owatonna, Annette (Chris) Ashley of Middelton, WI. , Mary (Daryl) VanRavenhorst of Janesville, MN., 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and Sister-in-law Mag Wencl. Ludwig is preceded in death by parents, three brothers and three sisters. Memorials are preferred to Owatonna Hospice Patient Care Fund or St. Joseph Church.
