Columbia – A Memorial Mass for Jack D. Oliver, Sr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2007, at Transfiguration Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenlawn Funeral Home.

Mr. Oliver passed away Sunday, December 2, 2007. He was born in Suffolk VA, April 7, 1947, to W.J. Oliver, Jr. and Betty Gallagher Oliver. Mr. Oliver graduated from Campbell University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. A resident of Columbia for the past 24 years, he was employed as purchasing manager for the past 8 years with SPX/Filtran in Lugoff, and with Union Camp for 25 years.
Mr. Oliver was a founding member of Transfiguration Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was also an active member of the National Railway Historical Society.
Mr. Oliver is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Linda Gills Oliver; sons, Jack D. Oliver, Jr. and wife Niki, and Stephen Edward Oliver and wife Laura; a grand-daughter, Delainey Allen Oliver; mother, Betty G. Oliver of Suffolk, VA; brothers, Patrick Safford of Huntington, WV, Tim Oliver of Hammond, IN, and Chris Oliver of Suffolk, VA; a sister, Rose Oliver Hutchinson of Boca Raton, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, W.J. Oliver, Jr.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. William Butler and nurses, Ann and Dusty, at SCOA, and to Tri-County Hospice.
