LARRY LUDWIG NOBBMAN

 

Larry Ludwig Nobbman, 76, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico, Mo. He was born on February 20, 1940, in Lincoln, Neb., the oldest child of Ludwig W. and Isobel Wall Nobbman. He attended school in Lincoln, Neb. and later attended Tarkio College and Columbia College. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Champlain Clingman on May 20, 1977, who survives at the home. Thru this union, Larry became the loving father to Marilyn's three children.

Larry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Military serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army and the Missouri National Guard. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, 3 Army Accommodation Medals, the Army Achievement Medal and numerous other Army decorations. He represented the Missouri Army National Guard in Command Rifle and Pistols Shooting Team Matches for several years, working with the Marksmanship Training Program assisting almost every Unit in Missouri. A Cold War Veteran, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant before he retired in 2000, after 35 years of serving his country. Larry had a very quiet demeanor and a big heart. The never-ending love, patience, encouragement and guidance that he provided to his children and grandchildren will always be an inspiration. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sharing his marksmanship abilities with his grandsons, playing cards, bingo, traveling, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Mizzou and Nebraska football teams and spending time at his cabin with his family and friends. One of his biggest joys in life was watching his children and grandchildren at their many sporting events and their school activities. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Larry in his quiet way lived a rich life committed to his faith, family, country and service to his fellowman. He was a member of the St. Joseph Cathedral Parish where he served as a Eucharist Lay Minister, Usher, greeter and long-time Adorer of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and attended Cursillo. He was a former Faithful Captain and a Faithful Navigator of the Dan C. Coppin Fourth Degree Assembly, Knights of Columbus and member of the St. Joseph's Knights of Columbus, Bishop Michael McAuliffe 12992, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 2693, American Legion, Chapter 5, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include: his wife of 38 years, Marilyn; one son, Melvin Dwayne Clingman (Julie) of Herman; three daughters, Lisa Thomaczek (Matt) of Linn, Gayla Propst (Jeff) of Jefferson City and Dana Berhorst (Dennis) of Holts Summit; nine grandchildren, Daron Williams (Felicia), Blake Williams, Elizabeth Clingman, Ryan Clingman, Hanna Lechner, Holden Lechner, Haley Berhorst, Blake Propst and Jessie Williams (Adam); five great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Lucas, Brooklyn, Alaina and Paige. Other survivors include: three sisters, Diane Smith (Richard), Lois Dack, Lora Jones (Curtis); three brothers, Gerald Nobbman, Dale Nobbman and Mike Nobbman; four sister-in-laws, Margaret Wekamp, Linda Oliver (Keith), Sharon Dashtaki (Hossein), all of Jefferson City and Patsy Champlain of Holts Summit; two brother-in-laws, Mike Champlain (Lana) and Donnie Champlain (Patty) of Jefferson City; and several nieces and nephews.
