CLARENCE JOHN KIRKWEG

 

Clarence John Kirkweg, 89, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Versailles, Missouri.

He was born February 16, 1927, in St. Elizabeth, Missouri, the son of the late William J. and Mary H. (Borgmeyer) Kirkweg.

Mr. Kirkweg served in the United States Army during World War II as a Technician Fifth Grade with the 288th Engineer Company Battalion. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was united in marriage on June 20, 1953, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City to Mary Ellen O'Dwyer who preceded him in death on March 7, 2014.

Mr. Kirkweg was a longtime construction worker. He retired from the Construction Industry Laborers. Before going into construction, he drove a milk route for Kraft Foods in California. He also worked at the Woolen Mill in California.

He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Other survivors include: three children, Linda Kirkweg, Jefferson City; Susan Anderson, Kansas City; Robert (Barbara) Kirkweg, Myrtle Beach, SC; two grandchildren, Nicholas Anderson and Megan (Matt) Brucks; one great-granddaughter, Madelyn Sue Brucks; one brother, Alfred (Mary) Kirkweg, Centertown; two sisters, Dolores (David) Bax, St. Martins; Delphine (Louis) Toebben, Taos; a brother-in-law, Don Welch, Jefferson City; and a sister-in-law, Anna Lou Kirkweg, Eldon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ellen; two brothers, Cornelius (Geraldine) Kirkweg, Norbert Kirkweg; five sisters, Eleanor (Delmar) Edwards; Rosalie (John) Hentges; Alvera (Marvin) Holliday; Rita (George) Braun; Alice (Linus) Patten; a brother-in-law, Robert O'Dwyer; and two sisters-in-law, Anna Jane Fischer and Catherine Welch.
