John Richard Settipani Born in Chicago, IL, October 19, 1925 Formerly of Schaumburg, gently passed on June 4th in Algonquin.
After graduating Lane Tech in 1943, he served as a gunner’s mate in the Navy during WWII. Upon returning to the states he earned his Bachelors from Iowa Wesleyan. He moved back to Chicago and after a long courtship, John married his soul mate Phyllis nee Lepovitz in November 1957. A loving father, he is survived by his sons Chris (Julie) and Preston (Gina) and daughters Jackie and Mickey (Paul) Grossman. Proud grandfather to Drew, Angela, Kyle, Austin and Sheridan. A top seller and designer of custom kitchens, he retired from K.D.A. in 1994. John was a 3 time cancer survivor, a devout Catholic, Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan, avid golfer, lover of Jazz and Poetry and at 89 could still play a grand game of chess. He had a quick wit and always had a story to tell. An outgoing, generous individual with a heart of gold, he many times opened his own home to strangers in need and gave them a place to stay while getting back on their feet. Visitation will be held on Thursday June 25, 2015 from 4-8:00 P.M. at the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin IL 60120. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 111 S. Hubbard St., Algonquin, IL 60102, with a short visitation at church from 10:15 A.M. until mass.
