William's Story

DANVILLE William (Bill) Gale Bays, 70, of Danville, passed away at 5:33 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
He was born Sept. 1, 1945, to William Harvey and Muriel (Pearson) Bays in Crossett, Ark. He married his wife Linda Ann (Reuther) Bays on May 4, 1974, in Danville, and they have been married for more than 42 years. Survivors include his mother, Muriel Bays; his wife, Linda; one son, Bradley Scott {Twyla) Bays; three daughters, Jennifer (Keith) Estock, Gail (Patrick) Lewis and Lindsey (Anthony) Nixon. Other survivors include the grandchildren he adored, Andrea (Brandon) Laine, Joshua Estock, Brittney (Bill) Johnson, Connor Bays, Jack Bays, Alex Lewis, Maggie Lewis, Liza Nixon and Aiden Nixon; as well as three great-grandchildren , Malachi Estock, Jaxon and Liam Laine. Surviving siblings include, Gary (Norma) Bays, Gregory Mark (Lori) Bays as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Carl and Dick; and a sister, Lucien Jean Brockwell.
Bill graduated from Danville High School in 1964. Bill was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member. Bill spent his entire career at Bohn/Heatcraft in the engineering and sales department for more than 52 years. He was an avid St Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved to work in the garden. He was also a very active member of Holy Family School, often seen working athletics, bingo and the Roast Beef dinners. He will forever be known as a great father and grandfather.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug . 31, 2016 , at Holy Family Catholic Church at 444 East Main Street in Danville. Officiating will be Father Steven Loftus and the Rev. Canon John J. Flattery. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Danville. A Prayer Vigil will be held at 4 Pp.m. with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. on Tuesday Aug. 30, 2016 , at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 North Vermilion St., Danville. Memorial donations may be made to Schlarman Academy Scholarship, Knights of Columbus Scholarship or Danville 118 Special Education.
