WILLIAM BLANKINSHIP

 

Mr. William Morris "Bill" Blankinship, 67, a Tattnall County native and a long-time resident of the Atlanta area died August 23, 2016 of a sudden heart attack. Bill entered Georgia Southern College, now Georgia Southern University, transferring to The University of Georgia, before graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. The start of his storied career began as a teacher which led to newspaper photographer and editor. In 1975 Bill joined Georgia Electric Membership Corporation in Atlanta, before co-founding two Atlanta-based insurance brokerage firms. He later served as a senior business development executive and client adviser at global brokers Willis Group and Marsh. For most of the 2000s, Bill worked with his partners as a risk strategy consultant for the banking and insurance industries. In August 2015, Bill joined Capstone Associated Services as director of business development in the Southeast region. During the many years he lived in Atlanta, Bill was a faithful and active member of several Episcopal parishes. He was received into the Roman Catholic Church on Easter 2015 and quickly took the parish under his wing. He joined the Knights of Columbus and was a beloved member of the council, a Fourth Degree Knight, and was very active in the Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) ministry. Bill loved the outdoors, cycling, hiking, fishing with friends and gardening with his wife, Kathy. He was a voracious reader, consuming literature of all types.
