Brother Dave was born on August 1, 1937. Dave joined the Knights of Columbus in 1959 and joined Council 7612 in 2000. At his death, Dave was 79 years old and a 57 year member of our Order
David Edward Smith, age 79, of Sykesville passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.
Born August 1, 1937, in Waucoma, Iowa, he was the son of the late Theon Smith and Catherine Meyer Smith. He was the loving husband of Marsha L. Smith of Sykesville, his wife of 55 years.
Dave retired from the Department of Defense after 34 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-58. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fulton Sheen Council #7612 and was a 4th Degree Knight. Dave was a HAM radio operator and was part of the United States Department of Defense's Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS).
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children and their spouses: Barb and Frank Grosso of Eldersburg, Mike Smith of Sykesville, Pat and Rick McPheron of Glen Burnie and Chris and Jan Smith of Westminster; grandchildren, Joe, Claire, Katie, Christi, Yelena and Matt and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Emma, Hendrick and Luke. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 5 to 8pm at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral liturgy will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016, at 10am St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Interment will be private.
