WILLIAM J WILSON

 

William J. "Bill" Wilson, 68, Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona surrounded by his family.

He was born in Johnstown, son of the late Harry L. and Victoria Ann (Jerz) Wilson. On Sept. 18, 1976, he married Mary K. Rentz at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Lori Wilson of State College and Erin Hayer and husband, Jared, of Duncansville; two sons: Kevin Wilson and wife, Emily, in North Carolina, and Mark Wilson of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren: Emma, Allison and Madelyn Hayer and Norah and Benjamin Wilson; a sister, Patricia Hiner and husband, Glen, of Central City; a brother, Robert Wilson and wife, Joanne, in North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, James.

Bill was a 1966 graduate of Shade High School, Central City. He attended Pennsylvania Military College, and he received his master's degree in civil engineering from Penn State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for MS Consultants, and he retired from EADS and PennDOT as a civil engineer.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where he served as an usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as founder and commissioner of Hollidaysburg AYSO. He enjoyed gardening, spending time in the outdoors, working in his yard, model trains and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, Monsignor Stanley B. Carson officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill Wilson may be made in support of Pulmonary Fibrosis Research at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals.
