JAMES MANNING

 

Mr. James Francis "Jim" Manning, 77, of Bartlesville, died at 11:26 A.M. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at his home following a lengthy illness.
Wake services for Jim will be held at 7 P.M. on Thursday, June 30, at the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel, Bartlesville, with Deacon Jerry Rutherford officiating. The funeral mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church, Bartlesville, with Father Chris Daigle officiating. Following cremation, interment will be at a later date in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
Jim was born in Oklahoma City on August 8, 1938 to Maurus James Manning and Geraldine Patricia (Richstatter) Gann. He grew up and received his education in Oklahoma City, graduating from Mount Saint Mary's High School in 1956. He entered the Air Force in June 1956 and worked in radar maintenance with duty stations primarily in California. Following his Honorable Discharge in March 1960, he returned to Oklahoma City. He married Marta Kathryn Wolf on December 28, 1963 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. After graduating with a B.S. in Mathematics from Central State College in Edmond, Jim and Marta moved to Bartlesville where he began his career as a computer programmer at Phillips Petroleum Company in 1965.
Following his retirement from Phillips in May of 1992, he began contract programming at various locations around the United States. He worked the last ten years of his contract career at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City until his second retirement in June of 2013.
Jim and Marta were members of St. James Catholic Church from its inception in August of 1965. Jim was active in the community of St. James. He was the director of the Diocesean Development Fund for many years, a Eucharistic minister, an original member of the Mardi Gras committee and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He supported his children's sporting endeavors, coaching every child in at least one season of their athletic careers. He also loved spending time with family and extended family, especially at the yearly polka gathering at Czech Hall in Yukon. Jim was an avid singer. During his years in the Air Force he was a member of a singing group called the Highlanders, and while employed at Phillips Petroleum he was a member of the Philtones. His passion for singing continued with karaoke. He was also a movie buff and enjoyed playing poker. Above all, Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marta Manning, six children, James Martin "Jimmy" Manning and wife Brandy of Coahoma, TX, Robert Francis "Rob" Manning and wife, Tonya of Overland Park, KS, Andrew Michael "Andy" Manning and wife Courtney of Oklahoma City, Johanna Kathryn "Jo" McCarthy and husband Tom of Lee's Summit, MO, John Adam "Jacky" Manning and Karen Peterson of Bartlesville and Daniel Joseph "Danny" Manning and wife Jaylie of Frisco, TX, four brothers and sisters, Patrick L. Manning and wife Jeanette of Oklahoma City, Louann Everett of Shawnee, Linda Bryant and husband Steve of Tecumseh and John Gann and wife Roberta of Yukon and nine grandchildren, Joseph, Kathryn, Taylor, and Sarah Manning; Roan, Calum, Sullivan, and Benen McCarthy; and Samuel Manning, one brother-in-law, Tom Braden of North Carolina, three sister-in-laws, Carol Manning of Oklahoma City, Linda Manning of Norman and Mary Ann Pryor and her husband Jerry of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Larry Manning and Mike Manning and a sister, Doris Braden.
