Gregory Mateo, 76, of Goose Creek, passed away June 13, 2016. Born in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Gregorio and Asunta Mateo and husband to the late Edwina Mateo. Greg worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation for many years, retiring as a superintendant. He is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. Mr. Mateo enjoyed playing golf with his friends, listening to music, reading, watching TV classics and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his children, Gregory Mateo and wife Shannon of Monroe, NC and Karen Mateo of New York, NY; grandchildren, Gregory Mateo and Cassidy Mateo, both of Monroe, NC. Greg is also survived by his beloved dog, Gator. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek. The family will receive friends prior to service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will be held at a later date in Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead, NY.
