Maj. Charles Henry Meter, USAF Ret. Hanahan - Maj. Charles Henry Meter, USAF Ret., 96, of Hanahan, SC, husband of Laurita Marie Kinney Meter died Tuesday, April 19, 2016. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 25, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445. His graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL. Charles was born October 3, 1919 in Dansville, NY, son of the late James H. Meter and the late Libby McCartney Meter. He was a Command Pilot with over 10,000 flight hours in the US Air Force, having first served as an Army Air Corps pilot and flight instructor in WWII. After the war he saw duty throughout Europe and North Africa, and served in the Strategic Air Command. Following a 21 year military career, he retired after 22 years from Civil Service as Director of the Methods Engineering and Statistics Division at the Naval Supply Center, Charleston, SC. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11991 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Laurita K. Meter; two sons, Robert E. Meter (Karen) of Parker, CO, Richard A. Meter, MD, (Patricia) of Vass, NC; daughter, Linda A. Englar (John) of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren: James A. Meter, Paul C. Meter, Kevin M. Englar, Scott M. Englar and Brian M. Englar. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
