RICHARD GANNON Richard "Dick" John Gannon, 87, of Las Vegas, passed away Nov. 28, 2007. He was born July 11, 1920, and raised in St. Louis. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Dec. 8, 1941, and proudly served in the South Pacific, including the New Guinea Campaign, where he was awarded the Bronze Service Star. After discharge, Dick graduated from Saint Louis University and became a certified public accountant in California and Nevada. His 28-year career was with the U.S. General Accounting Office, serving as an audit manager in the Los Angeles Regional Office. He continued his career in Las Vegas, where he served as chief internal auditor for Clark County. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Stella and Bernard Gannon; his dear sister, Jacqueline Theresa Bremner; and his beloved granddaughter, Brittany Grace York. He is survived by the love of his life and wife, of 52 years, Grace Vita Gannon of Las Vegas; his three daughters, Mary Odile Taylor of Redondo Beach, Calif., Colleen Anne York and Kathleen Theresa Gannon, both of Henderson; his son-in-law, Anthony Allen York of Henderson; and his three grandchildren, Justin Matthew and Aaron Richard Taylor of California, and Danielle Marie Thorsen of Henderson. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Anne Hajovsky and Dorothy Jane Gannon; and brother-in-law, Joe Hajovsky, all of California. Dick was very active in church and community. Among his proudest community roles were his chairmanship of the Sons of Erin St. Patrick's Day Parade, his service as instructor, and then president of EXCELL (a "learning in retirement" organization at UNLV), his membership in the American Legion, the V.F.W., and his position as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. One of his many passions included sports, and he was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved USC football. Services were previously held. Interment at Palm Valley View Cemetery |
