LOUIS E LANZENDORFER

 

Louis E. "Lou" Lanzendorfer, 78, Duncansville, died Saturday morning, May 5, 2007, at his residence.

He was born February 18, 1929, in Puzzletown, son of the late Leo and Olene (Baker) Lanzendorfer. He married Agnes M. Burk September 2, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Newry.

He is survived by his wife of more than 56 years; three daughters: Jean L. Mentzer and her husband, Mike, of Mars, Joan M. Rhodes of Duncansville and Eva M. Pope and her husband, Steven, of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Wayne E. and his wife, Debra, of Williamsport, Md., and Greg E. and his wife, Lori, of Altoona; 13 grandchildren: Virginia, Michael, Eric, Matthew, Adam, Maria, Marc, Julie, Stuart, Phillip, Kaitlyn, Makenzie and Nathan; two sisters: Rita Noel of Puzzletown and Eva Coho of Duncansville; and a brother, Melvin "Skip" of Hollidaysburg.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erin; a son-in-law, Dean Rhodes Jr.; and eight brothers.

He was a founding member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville, where he was a lector and member of the choir and church council. He was a member of the prison ministry (Cursillo Group).

Mr. Lanzendorfer graduated from Hollidaysburg Senior High School in 1948. He retired from SKF in 1991 after 40 years of service.

He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren's sporting and dancing events. He was Fan of the Year for the Hollidaysburg boys' basketball team in 2007. He enjoyed golfing and painting.

He was a fundraiser for the Duncansville Community Days. He also was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council.

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg (www .sorgefuneralhome.com), where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville, by Father John J. Slovikovski. Committal at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.

Memorials may be given to St. Catherine's Church, Duncansville.
