CLYDE F BARNES

 

Clyde F. Barnes, 79, Hollidaysburg, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus after a brief illness.

He was born October 14,1927, in Hollidaysburg, son of the late Francis and Margaret (Irvine) Barnes. He married Mary Teresa McNelis December 5, 1946, in Hollidaysburg.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years; two daughters: Catherine Stapelfeld and husband, Ben, of Duncansville, and Holly O'Connor and husband, Denny, of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Dr. Patrick and wife, Mary, of Hollidaysburg and Dr. Michael and wife, Aimee, of Bradenton, Fla. Mr. Barnes had ten grandchildren of whom he was very proud, including: Rebecca Barnes and husband, Rob, of Boulder, Colo., Brad and wife, Stephanie, of Morgantown, W.Va., Dr. Mark of Hollidaysburg, Erin Borzellino and husband, Nick, of London, England, Ben Stapelfeld and wife, Christina, of Duncansville, Clark Stapelfeld of Hollidaysburg, Kelly Padamonsky and husband, Bill, of Altoona, Catherine O'Connor and Michael O'Connor of Hollidaysburg and Patrick of Bradenton, Fla. He was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Meghan Barnes, Ben and Corie Stapelfeld, Giorgio Borzellino and Colin Padamonsky. Clyde also is survived by a sister, Ruth Ann Barnes of Hollidaysburg; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Along with his wife, he graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1945. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked for the A&P Bakery in Altoona for 30 years and later retired as a supervisor from Marhoefer Baking Co. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.

Mr. Barnes enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons, vegetable gardening and attending the sporting events and special activities of his grandchildren. He also was an avid Duke University basketball fan. He will be greatly missed for his quick wit and gentle ways by family and friends alike.

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg (www.sorgefuneralhome.com).

A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Anthony J. Legarski. Committal at New St. Mary Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
