Norbert Leo Schrom, age 78, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, Minnesota.
Norbert was born June 10, 1937, as the son of Edward and Roselyn (Spindler) Schrom in Owatonna. After attending country school, Norbert continued to work on the family farm. He enlisted in the Navy in 1955 and proudly served his country until 1958. On June 18, 1958, Norbert married the love of his life, Maxine Wagner, "the bride", at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Together they raised six children on their family farm by Bixby. Throughout the years he worked for Hydro- Ax in Owatonna and Greenway Co-Op in Claremont. Norbert enjoyed his early retirement spending time with family, friends and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and Tuesday morning coffee with the ROMEO'S. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Knights of Columbus in Owatonna.
Norbert is survived by his bride of 58 years, Maxine; his children, Ione (Rick) Hagen, Hudson, WI, Kurt (Lisa) Schrom, Newnan, GA, Dean (Jody) Schrom, Owatonna, MN, Gale (Danielle) Schrom, Pine Island, MN, Troy (Paula) Schrom, Janesville, MN, and Todd (Connie) Schrom, Minocqua, WI; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one grandson-in-law and one great grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna with the Rev. Michael Cronin presiding. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County funeral unit. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, May 3 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the funeral liturgy at Sacred Heart. |
