John Thomas Joseph Astoske, 85, of Southport passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Dosher Nursing Center.
Mr. Astoske was born September 23, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, to John and Anna Astoske. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict.
He married his wife, the late Lillian Astoske, on June 16, 1951. Mr. Astoske had worked for Standard Uniform Company and Pfizer Chemical, and along with his wife were the owners of The Sweetreat Ice Cream Parlor in Southport for 25 years.
After retirement, John and Lillian would spend many nights and weekends watching their grandson Derek play baseball, and after Lillian’s passing in 2013 John could still be seen at the ballfields. John also loved fishing with his son and grandson.
Mr. Astoske was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a 4th Degree Knight.
Survivors include sons John Astoske and wife Ginger and Peter Astoske and wife Susan; daughter Jane Astoske and Kai Nielsen; four grandchildren, Diana, Derek, Megan and Jordan. |
