PAUL J. ACITO

 

Paul J. Acito, Sr., 82, a 50-year resident of Edgewater, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 at his home from Parkinson's disease. Born on April 2, 1934 in Youngwood, PA to the late Paul and Julia Acito, Paul graduated from Youngwood High School. He earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the State Teachers College at Indiana, Pennsylvania and Master's degree from the University of Maryland. Paul served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from the Anne Arundel County Board of Education where he served as the Special Assistant to the Superintendant. Paul was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, volunteering for many years as a lector and pioneering the creation of the parish's long-standing grocery certificate fundraising program. He was also active in the local community where he was a member and past president of both the South Anne Arundel Lions Club and the Teachers' Association of Anne Arundel County as well as a member of the Annapolis Elks. He was the recipient of the Lions International Foundation's Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Paul was also a member of the Washington District Football Officials Association and served as a referee at area high school and college football games. Among his other interests, Paul enjoyed golfing and fishing; most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Acito; three sons, Paul J. (Terri) Acito, Jr. of Davidsonville, Duane J. Acito of North Canton, OH and David A. Acito of Edgewater; one daughter, Cindy (Ron) Travers of Crofton; a brother, Ralph Acito and sister, Virginia Mough; and 10 grandchildren (Ashley, Jessica, Kasey, Andrew, Victoria, Zachary, Melanie, Paige, Peyton, Skylar). Friends are invited to celebrate Paul's life from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 7 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 827 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville. Entombment will be at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MD Association for Parkinson Support, Inc., P.O. Box 450, Brooklandville, MD 21022.
