Joseph “Joe” Raymond Richard, Sr., 75, of LaBelle, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born October 16, 1940, in Houston, to Ivy Primeaux Richard and Clyde Richard, and was a veteran of the United States Army.

Joe was very athletic during his high school years, playing football, basketball, and track. He held track records at Hamshire-Fannett High School until the 1990’s. Joe was a carpenter by trade. He built many houses in the area and worked also in the industry as a carpenter. For years Joe’s friends would come on the weekend and would cook their road kill in his outdoor kitchen, leading his wife, Barbara, to name it the Gag n Puke Saloon. Later Joe and his wife would own and operate Mae’s Fish Camp for ten years. He enjoyed puttering around his yard and growing a garden.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty-eight years, Barbara Y’Barbo Richard; sons, Joseph “JoJo” Richard and partner Joey Melton of Norcross, Georgia; and Brian Richard of LaBelle; grandsons, Justin Richard of LaBelle and Logan Richard of Edmonton, Canada; brother, Maurice Richard of LaBelle; sister, Susan Keneson LeBlanc of LaBelle; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and in-laws, Richard and Bobbie Y’Barbo.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Richard; mother, Ivy Primeaux Richard Keneson; sisters, Rita Richard, Mary Richard Williams, Velma Richard Holcomb, Nora Richard Webb, and Helen Richard Sharp.

A gathering of Mr. Richard’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
