LEWIS FREDERICK HANCOCK

 

Lewis Fredrick "Lew" Hancock, 73, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Missouri.

He was born November 10, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of the late Herbert Frederick and Frances Eugene (Trendle) Hancock.

Lew was a graduate of Rockhurst High School in Kansas City in 1959. He received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Detroit in Detroit, Michigan in June of 1965. he then received his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri in June of 1977.

He was united in marriage on July 16, 1966, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri to Evelyn Jean Garbacz who survives.

Lew was a civil engineer with the Missouri Department of Transportation in the design and planning offices in Kansas City, Joplin, Macon and Jefferson City for over 36 years.

He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, St. Joseph's Stewardship Committee, Bishop Michael F. McAuliffe Knights of Columbus Council 12992; Forth Degree Knights of Columbus; sons of the American Revolution, Mended Hearts, Leaning in Retirement, and Chi Epsilon Honorary Fraternity. He was a volunteer with the Samaritan Center, Habitat for Humanity building projects, Relay for Life, and worked as an AARP Tax Aide.
