Ronald (Ron) C. Hanson, 76, of Owatonna, died March 18, 2016 at Homestead Hospice House of Owatonna. Ron was born April 7, 1939 to Clifford and Dorothy (Dode Brick) Hanson in Owatonna. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1958. Ron married Patricia (Pat Hanson) August 29, 1959 at St. Joseph's Church in Owatonna. Ron worked at Owatonna Shoe for his uncle Jim Brick after graduating from high school. He sold insurance for Minnesota Mutual Life from 1965 to 1995 at which time he became semi-retired and worked at Owatonna Monument as a salesman and at Brooktree Golf course mowing fairways. Ron retired in 1989 after 20 years of service from the Owatonna Fire Department. He was a member of the Owatonna Eagles Club and the Owatonna Knights of Columbus. He was a long-time member of the Steele County Free Fair Board. Ron is survived by his wife Pat, his daughter Kim (Dennis) Giesen of Bowstring Lake, Minnesota, and son Kelly (Mickie) Hanson of Owatonna, Minnesota; grandchildren Andrew (Monica) Deming, Amy (Joe) Tupy, Casey Deming, Molly (Nate) Ahrens, Ben Hanson, and Pete Hanson; great grandchildren Zoey and Zane Tupy; siblings Anne (LaVerne) Jacobsen, Dave Hanson (Carol Miletti), Jeanne (Wayne) Shellum, Deb Cosgrove, and Rick Hanson (Judell Anderson); and many nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Michael Cosgrove, niece Carrie Cosgrove and nephew Michael Hanson. Visitation will be one hour prior to mass at Sacred Heart Church, Owatonna, Minnesota. Funeral mass will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday March 23. A reception will be held following mass the Owatonna Eagles Club, 141 East Rose Street. Ron requested that his body be donated to Mayo Clinic Research. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Homestead Hospice House Patient Care Fund, 2350 Northwest 26th Street, Owatonna, Minnesota 55060. A private burial will be held at a later date. |
