Feb. 28, 2016
Waxahachie resident George Richard Bristol passed away Feb. 28, 2016. George was pre-deceased by JoAn, his wife of 56 years, and his brother Robert Bristol. He leaves behind his sisters, Eleanor Schaedler, Sharon Beckly, and his five children; David (wife, Susan), James (Kathy), Richard (Lisa), Brian (Lisa Ann) and Georgia JoAnn Dixon (husband James). He had nine grandchildren (Matthew, Stephanie, Diana, Sharon, Kateri, Roseanna, Elisabeth, Jaden and Sydney) and four great-grandchildren (Daria, Lena, Gideon, Abigail) and was eagerly anticipating his fifth (Kaylee) to join the family in March.
George was a Marine Corps veteran, serving active duty in the Korean conflict. He was an engineer, and used his engineering skills in a number of different industries. He worked in aerospace, the development of computers, and the manufacturing of precision optics. In retirement, he worked in sporting and entertainment areas, and was always well liked for his positive nature and warm smile. His favorite hobby was fishing, particularly with his family. This passion was passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was an active member in the Catholic Church and served in numerous volunteer positions over the years as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.
During his final years, he lived at Brookdale Senior Living, where he led the poker group, “George’s High Rollers” and a book club, being an avid reader. He also enjoyed gardening in the courtyard and socializing with the other residents.
A Rosary will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 609 Kaufman, Waxahachie, Tx, on 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2016. In lieu of flowers, that family asks that any memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Knights of Columbus.
