ROBERT M BOTTENFIELD

 

Robert M. Bottenfield, 75, Williamsburg, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.

He was born February 13, 1936, in Altoona, son of the late William M. and Evelyn (Geesey) Bottenfield. He married Georgia G. Green on July 16, 1960, in Mount Carmel, Tenn.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years; two daughters: Sara Jo Ryan and husband, John, of Altoona and Sondra Joan Scholton and husband, Todd, of State College; a son, Patrick Michael and fiancee, Heather Zimmerman, of Williamsburg; five grandchildren: Daniel, Sandra, Rachel, Liam and Colten; and two brothers: William J. of Hollidaysburg and Donn P. of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

Robert was a 1954 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and a 1958 graduate of Penn State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Signal Corps stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga. He retired from Tel-Power as manager of the traffic signal division after 35 years of service, and he was owner and operator, along with his wife and children, of the Yellow Springs Farm in Catharine Township, where he raised black Angus cattle. After retirement, he worked for Whitehill Electric in State College.

Robert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Williamsburg, where he served as usher and past chairman of the finance committee. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea Council, Mount Etna Sportsmen's Club and Juniata Valley Audubon Society. He enjoyed traveling and cruises.

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg (www.sorgefuneralhome.com), where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Williamsburg, by Father Aron M. Maghsoudi. Committal will be at New St. Mary Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.

Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the American Heart Association, Blair County Unit.
