HERMAN J BEYER

 

Herman J. Beyer, 83, 1038 Fourth Ave., Duncansville, passed away Monday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.

He was born in Sidman, son of the late Marcellus and Anna (Senft) Beyer of Sidman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Bertha M. (Chmelarsky) Beyer; a daughter, Mary "Margaret," wife of Jeffrey Schwartz, of Duncansville; his beloved grandchildren: Brandon and Janaye Schwartz of Duncansville; a son, Herman of Austin; a daughter-in-law, Gail Beyer of Olean, N.Y.; grandsons: Michael (wife, Kim) of Buffalo, N.Y., and Christopher (wife, Melissa) of Worcester, Mass.; great-grandchildren: Dominic, Francesca, Caden and Colin; brothers: Robert, Richard and Edward, all of Sidman; and sisters: Martha and Patty, both of Las Vegas, Delores of Altoona and Shirley in Hawaii. He also is survived by many friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers: Vincent and Modestus; and a sister, Jean Duffy, all formerly of Sidman.

Mr. Beyer was owner of Allegheny Mountain Inn Restaurant for 42 years. He then was foreman of Duncansville Borough until his retirement in 2001. He currently was serving on Duncansville Borough Council.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Hollidaysburg, where he was a fourth-degree knight. He was a life member of the Globe Run Rod and Gun Club.

Herman was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Duncansville, where he served in the church ministry. He also was active in the Duncansville Borough Council.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, doing yard work, church activities and the Knights of Columbus. He was a wonderful repairman.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a special ''Pop Pop'' to Brandon and Janaye. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville, the Rev. John Slovikovski and Monsignor Arnold Gaus celebrants. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, March 4, at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home, 1218 Fourth Ave., Duncansville, where a vigil service will be held (www .LiebegottBrown.com). Entombment at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
