JOHN F SULLIVAN

 

Attorney John F. Sullivan, 82, of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Hollidaysburg, passed away Sunday at the manor after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late John F. Sr. and Dorothy B. (Pennington) Sullivan. He married Roseann L. Dienna on August 3, 1957, and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2011.

Surviving are five sons: Attorney Shawn P. Sullivan and wife, Susan, of Hollidaysburg, the Honorable Timothy M. Sullivan and wife, Vicki, of Hollidaysburg, Terrence B. Sullivan of Hollidaysburg, Kevin D. Sullivan and wife, Maryanne, of Jamison, and Christopher B. Sullivan of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters: Sheila K. Ramsey and husband, Rick, of Snow Hill, Md., and Noreen M. Wesner and husband, Tim, of Hollidaysburg; and fourteen grandchildren: Thomas, Lauren and husband Ryan, Brian, Rachel and husband Dave, Teresa, Colin, Daniel, Brooks, Blaine, Breck, Shane, Brittan, Julia, and Logan.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Howard L. Pennington.

Attorney Sullivan was a 1950 graduate of Georgetown Preparatory High School in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Georgetown College in 1954 and from Georgetown Law School in 1957.

He began his career as an attorney at Robert C. Haberstroh Law Office. In 1960, he went on his own and established the John F. Sullivan Law Office in Altoona. He retired as senior partner of Sullivan, Forr, Stokan, Huff, and Kormanski after 54 years of service.

Attorney Sullivan was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. He had been President of Altoona Jaycees, Inc., where he was voted statewide President of the Year in 1964, and had also been President and member of the Serra Club. He was a long-time member of Rotary Club of Altoona and the Knights of Columbus, and a 50-year member of the Pennsylvania and Blair County Bar Associations.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, Penn State football, and tennis.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Clark Street, Hollidaysburg, followed by a funeral Mass at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Father Anthony J. Legarski. Committal will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
