Thomas Joseph "TJ" Sault II, 83, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday night at Homewood at Martinsburg surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Chicopee, Mass., son of the late Louis E. and Margaret M. (Kelly) Sault. He married Diane E. Henry on Sept. 25, 1954, at St. Michael Cathedral, Springfield, Mass.
Surviving are his beloved wife; four daughters: Cynthia M. Wicker and husband, Duane, of Roaring Spring, Donna M. Pielmeier-Sipes and husband, Tom, of Altoona and Mary Lou Link and husband, Brian, and Maureen A. Hamor and husband, Richard, all of Duncansville; two sons: Thomas J. "TJ" III of Altoona and Mark S. and wife, Debora, of Duncansville; 18 grandchildren: Adam, Ryan and Julie Pielmeier, Shaun and Lisa Sipes, Thomas J. "Joe" IV, Tiffoni, David, Dan, Stephen and Andrew Sault, Sarah Sault, Trae Shirey, Justin, Blake and Garret Link and Hillary and Joel Hamor; and two great-grandchildren: Luanna Sault and Skylar Andrew Sault.
Tom attended the University of Ottawa in Canada for two years prior to his military commitment and then in 1960 graduated from American International College, Springfield, Mass., with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950-54 aboard the USS Fred T. Berry, USS Benham and USS Altair, attaining the rank of storekeeper second class.
He retired as MPR coordinator from Mead School and Office Products, Alexandria, Huntingdon County, in 1994 after 20 years of service. Previous to that, he had served as superintendent of the embossed stamped envelope facility of the US Envelope Division of Mead/Westvaco, Williamsburg, from 1971-74. After his retirement, he worked for the U.S. Census Bureau as a recruiter/examiner for potential census takers, then as a part-time tipstaff in the court administration of the Blair County courts from 2002-10, and finally as a client finance administrator at Cove Forge, Williamsburg, from 2010-11.
Tom was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williamsburg, where he had served as chairman of the parish finance council, coordinator of religious education, Eucharistic minister, lector, choir member and president of the Holy Name Society. He had also served as church/vocations director of the Pennsylvania State Council, Knights of Columbus, where he served as district deputy for 10 years; was a past faithful navigator of Bishop Garvey Assembly, Fourth Degree, Altoona; was past grand knight, Star of the Sea Council 4245, Hollidaysburg; and was diocesan coordinator of the Fourth Degree for Central Pennsylvania. He had been an active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1954.
Also over the years, since 1972, Tom had been elected Blair County Republican Committeeman for Williamsburg Borough, member and president of Williamsburg Community School District board of directors, chairman of the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center Operating Committee, president of Williamsburg Area Improved Dwellings Inc., president of Williamsburg Veterans Memorial Association Inc., and first vice president of Williamsburg Community Betterment Corp.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, where a Knights of Columbus memorial service, followed by a vigil for the deceased, will be held beginning at 8:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be concelebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Father Aron M. Maghsoudi and Father Anthony J. Legarski officiating. Committal rites with military flag honors accorded by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. |
