LOUIS J FANELLI

 

Louis J. Fanelli, 84, The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville, formerly of 554 55th Street, Altoona, died Friday at The Winds. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Anthony J. Sr. and Monica G. (Wilson) Fanelli. He was twice married, first to Anna E. Howell who preceded him in May of 1985 and then to Marian F. Meintel who survives.

Louis is survived by three sons: Louis J. Fanelli Jr., Altoona, Stephen A. Fanelli and wife Janet, San Marcos, CA and Thomas A. Fanelli and wife Lois, Medford, OR; a daughter, Patricia A. Geesey and husband Geoff, Duncansville; a step-son, Thomas Moore and wife Sheila, State College; four grandchildren, Alyssa Cavalier and husband James, Kristina Geesey, Tyler Fanelli and Zachary Fanelli; two step-grandchildren, Matthew and Mark Moore; a brother, Anthony J. Fanelli, Jr., Altoona and a cousin Barbara Ebner Good who was raised in the family home.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John “Jack” Fanelli.

Louis was a 1946 graduate of Altoona High School and received an Associates Degree from Mount Aloysius in criminology. He was U.S. Army Veteran, an avid woodworker, an excellent cook, enjoyed traveling and was a member of Fraternal Order of Police, Mountain Lodge # 8, Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 4245, Hollidaysburg, The Navy League and was a former Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster.

He retired as a Corporal from the Altoona Police Department with 27 years of service. Prior to his work with The Altoona Police Department, he had worked for the City of Altoona Fire Department for 11 years. Louis was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at The Stevens Mortuary, 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am, Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Fr. Brian Saylor. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Louis will be greatly missed by his loving family.
