DANIEL D KUBITSKY

 

Daniel D. Kubitsky, 80, Hollidaysburg, died early Thursday morning at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.

He was born in Smock, Fayette County, son of the late Andrew and Mary E. (Pelish) Kubitsky. He married Delores Peskie on Feb. 11, 1956, in St. Hedwig, Smock, and she died Oct. 31, 1997, after 41 years of marriage.

Surviving are five daughters: Diana Fields (John) in Florida, Denise Kreckel (Peter) of Tyrone, Dr. Donna Messner of Altoona, Danell Wolfe (Mark) of Allentown and M. Doreen Carraway (Jeff) of Sewickley; a son, David (Julie) of Lititz; 12 grandchildren: John Fields, Gretchen Garofli, Elizabeth and Philip Kreckel, Kirsten Messner, William, Joe and Abby Wolfe, Stephen, Joshua and Matthew Carraway and Sarah Kubitsky; a sister, Agnes Petrus of Smock; and a brother, Richard of Sarasota, Fla.


Daniel was a 1950 graduate of Uniontown High School and a 1958 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in education, and he received a master's degree from Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during the Korean conflict from 1953-55. In 1991, he retired as a driver's education teacher from the Hollidaysburg Area School District after 34 years of service.

Daniel was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Star of the Sea Council as well as the Pennsylvania State Education Association and Hollidaysburg Area Education Association.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a Knights of Columbus service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Clement G. Gardner. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, or Hollidaysburg Area School District Foundation.
