Joseph D. Eberhardt, 67, Altoona, died Saturday at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joseph John and Ruth Naomi (Wineland) Eberhardt. He married Gaile L. Jones on June 8, 1964.

Surviving are his wife; two children: Joseph Allen Eberhardt and wife, Susan, and Renee Lee Heininger and husband, Troy, all of Altoona; four grandchildren: Shealyn, Marissa, Lexi and Dean, all of Altoona; a brother, John of Altoona; two sisters: Hedy DelBiondo of Frankstown and Judy Roberts of Altoona; a cousin, Colleen Smith and husband, Paul, in Florida; good friends: Michael Cerullo and Don Servello; and his dog, Buddy.

Joseph attended Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran with a total of 22 years of service, attaining the rank of warrant officer and serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona.

He was a member and commander of the Catholic War Veterans, a member of Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars, a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus, the St. Vincent DePaul Society president for St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and a Master Mason.

Joseph enjoyed winemaking and antique cars and was an avid New York Yankees fan.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona. Entombment will be made at Calvary Cemetery.
