RAY E MALONE

 

Ray E. Malone, 86, Maple Avenue, Hollidaysburg, died Friday morning, May 14, 2010, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.

He was born February 24, 1924, and raised in Hollidaysburg, son of Harmon and Florence (Detwiler) Malone. He married Theresa C. Georgiana November 17, 1945.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years; two sons: Ray E. and wife, Libby, and Timothy J. and wife, Donna, all of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren: Jason and wife, Marcy, Courtney Yogus and husband, John, Katie, Matthew and Eric; and three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Addison and Olivia.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Jesse and Edward.

Ray was a 1942 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII with the 11th Special Seabee Attachment, 1st Marine Division, serving in the Pacific and participating in the Solomon Islands invasion and the invasion of Okinawa. He worked in the A&P warehouse, retiring in 1979 after 35 years of service.

Ray was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where he served as an usher. He also belonged to the Fort Fetter American Legion Post 516, Allegheny Club and Knights of Columbus.

He loved the outdoors and traveling.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2010, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Clement G. Gardner.

Memorials may be given to St. Michael Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
