Father Robert S. Juroszek, T.O.R., 51, died Tuesday in Des Moines, Iowa, while visiting the bishop who ordained him.

He was born in St. Cloud, Minn., the son of the late Paul and Dorothea (Lovett) Juroszek.

He was received into the novitiate of the Franciscans of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis of Penance by the Very Rev. Robert D' Aversa, T.O.R., minister provincial, at the Church of St. Bridget in Minneapolis on April 14, 2000. He professed his vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in the hands of Very Rev. Robert D' Aversa, T.O.R. at the Church of St. Gerard Majella, in Brooklyn Park, Minn., on April 18, 2001, and professed his solemn vows in the hands of the minister provincial, the Very Rev. Anthony Criscitelli, T.O.R. at the Church of St. Bridget in Minneapolis on Sept. 17, 2004.

He began his college education at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota and then transferred to Brown Institute in Minneapolis, where he received an Associate of Arts degree in electronics technology. He continued his education at St. John University in Collegeville, Minn., where he received his Bachelor of Science in business administration. He attended the Washington Theological Union while residing at St. Louis Friary in Washington, D.C. He continued his seminary training at the School of Divinity at St. Paul Seminary of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.

He was ordained to the deaconate at St. Mary Chapel at St. Paul Seminary on Nov. 30, 2004. Having completed his studies, he was ordained to the priesthood on June 16, 2005, by the Most Rev. Richard Pates, the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis. On July 1, 2005, Father Robert was assigned as the parochial vicar at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Altoona, where he served until the time of his death.

In 1972 to the present, Father was a lieutenant colonel in the Civil Air Patrol with the duty of moral leadership officer. He was a life member of the American Radio Relay League. From 1977-86 he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League, the Marine Corps League, the Air Force Association and the Military Chaplains Association.

He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Paul Richard.

He is survived by his religious community and by his sister, Theresa Eischens-Alvarado (Daniel) of Jupiter, Fla., and his aunt and uncle, Bess and Oscar Juroszek of Sheridan, Wyo.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with a wake service that will begin at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass for Father Robert will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2010. The burial will follow at the Community Cemetery at St. Bernardine Monastery in Hollidaysburg.
