LESTER P EMERY

 

Lester P. "Les" Emery, 79, Hollidaysburg, died early Friday evening, March 27, 2009, at Altoona Regional Health System, Bon Secours Hospital Campus, emergency room.

He was born January 22, 1930, in Sharon, son of the late Frank C. and Anna (Gorzo) Emery. He married Patricia M. Moran September 5, 1959, in Sharon.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years; two daughters: Kathleen M. Bartel and husband, Chris, of Williamsburg and Susan P. of Altoona; four sons: John F. "Sean" of Redwood City, Calif., Michael "Vince" of Roanoke, Va., Mark J. of Hollidaysburg and Matthew E. and wife, Tammy, of Altoona; four grandchildren: Katie, Eric, Maggie and Christianna "Annie"; a sister, Anne Martin of Hermitage, Pa.; a brother, Frank C. Jr. of Statesville, N.C., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Les was preceded in death by three infant grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where he was a choir member and volunteer.

He was a graduate of Sharon Senior High School, Class of 1948.

Mr. Emery retired from Conrail as a business systems analyst in Philadelphia in 1990, with 23 years of service. Prior to that, he worked at the Juniata Office.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Emery enjoyed his grandchildren, computers, crossword puzzles, singing, sports, reading, being a handyman and his pet dogs and cats.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea Council.

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service for the deceased will be held (www.sorgefuneralhome.com). A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Anthony J. Legarski. Committal at New St. Mary Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church, or the choir, 312 Clark Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648, or the Humane Society.
