JOHN J JANOSIK, SR.

 

John J. "Jake" Janosik Sr., 92, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Newry, died Friday at the veterans home after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of Joseph and Mary (Serano) Janosik. He married Margaret M. Glsinsky Jan. 15, 1947. She died Jan. 15, 1998.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Parks of Port Orchard, Wash.; two sons: John Janosik Jr. of Clyde, Texas, and Stephan Janosik of Newry, Pa.; two grandchildren: Jennifer Moore of Tacoma, Wash., and Autumn Bryant of Gordon, Texas; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Janosik of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home; and two sisters: Ann Kupar of Elyria, Ohio, and Margaret Parano of Duncansville.

John was the oldest of six brothers and sisters, was a beloved father and will be greatly missed.

He retired from Long Beach Naval Shipyard, Long Beach, Calif., April 20, 1980, where he had worked as a tank test specialist and engineer. He also invented new devices for retrofitting ships while employed there.

Mr. Janosik served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater of operations.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing. A private committal service will be held Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery.
