ROBERT D. FISCHER

 

Robert Douglas Fischer, 85, of Owatonna passed away December 11, 2015 at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Owatonna. Robert was born June 2, 1930 in Hope, MN, the oldest son of Harvey and Olivia Fischer. He graduated from Ellendale High School in 1947. Robert married his high school sweetheart Patricia (Disher) in 1951, and they enjoyed a wonderful 64 years of marriage together.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, children Cheryl Fischer, Becky (Bruce) Granowski, Brad, and Kirk (Molly), 12 grandchildren: Jodi, Kate, Angie, Brianna, Cody, Devin, Nick, Andy, Emily, Lydia, Will and Rylee, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters Aleene Brown, LaVonne (Allen) Ribbe, Virginia (Dennis) Avery, Mary (Warren) Torgerson and brother James (Ann). He is preceded in death by his daughter Mary Kay, son Gregory, and his parents Harvey and Olivia Fischer.

Robert enjoyed a 37 year career at Federated Insurance in Owatonna, where he made many lifelong friends and wonderful memories. After retiring from Federated, Robert enjoyed working at his son's store, Fischer Sports in Owatonna. He led an active life, enjoying bridge club and card games, playing pool, golf, walking with Pat, as well as watching his favorite teams, including the Vikings, Twins, Red Sox and Braves. He spent countless hours at ballparks, gymnasiums and fields, cheering for his children, grandchildren and many Owatonna Huskies sports teams. Robert was a longtime member and past Exalted Ruler at the Elks Club of Owatonna, and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Robert also volunteered his time on the Owatonna Park Board as well as delivering Meals on Wheels and supporting Catholic Youth Education for many years.

A visitation will be held at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, on Sunday, December 13th from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 512 South Elm Street, Owatonna, on Monday, December 14th at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the patient care fund at the Homestead Hospice House, Owatonna (507-446-0936) or to a charity of the donor's choice.
