Biography

Max Smesny, 82, of Midlothian, Texas, passed away on December 8th, 2015 surrounded by his family. Max was born in Eastgate, TX to Frances and Ludvik Smesny on September 4th, 1933. Max attended Dayton High School and enlisted in the Navy upon graduation where he was stationed in California, Texas, and Cuba.

He married Georgie Lillian Pavlat on March 1st, 1954. They made their homes in Irving, TX, Houston, TX and Portland, TX before moving to Ewa Beach, HI. They later settled in Midlothian, TX where their home remains. Max worked as an aircraft mechanic for Braniff International Airways for twenty seven years after which he taught small engine repair at Waxahachie High School. He retired in 1995 and continued to work his cattle ranch. Max was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waxahachie, and a member of their local chapter of the Knights of Columbus where he served a term as Grand Knight.

Survivors include Georgie Smesny, his loving wife of 61 years, five sons, Ron Smesny and Eva Savala of LaFayette, GA, Mark Smesny and wife, Elizabeth of Richland Hills, TX, Michael Smesny of Midlothian, TX, Gregory Smesny of Austin, TX and Craig Smesny of Arlington, TX. Sister, Edith & Thomas Jasek of Baytown, Texas; Eight grandchildren, Lt. Col. Jason Smesny and wife, Cassie of Huntsville AL, Stephen Smesny and wife, Christy of Vidalia, GA, Bryan Smesny and fiancé, Blakely Shaye Pendergrass of LaFayette, GA, Airman 1st Class Maxwell Smesny, Ben Smesny, and Lilliana Smesny of Richland Hills, TX, Mitchell Smesny and Jordan Smesny of Austin, TX. Two Great Grandchildren: Grayson Smesny of Vidalia, Georgia & Collin Smesny of Huntsville, Alabama. Max was a special man that was deeply loved. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 14, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December15, 2015 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waxahachie with Father Martin Moreno officiating.

Interment will follow at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
