Gary L. Mowrey, 76, of Kearney died Friday, September 4, 2015 at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney, NE. Father Joe Hannappel will celebrate and burial will follow at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. followed by a Vigil Wake service at 7:00 p.m. all at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Optimist Club, St. James Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus St. James Council #1728. Gary was born on October 3, 1938 in Miller, NE to Melvin L. and Ruth E. (Muller) Mowrey. He attended Miller High School and graduated with the class of 1956. He moved to Kearney shortly after high school and later married Barbara A. Thiem on November 28, 1959 in Kearney, NE. Gary worked in Car Sales for over 45 Years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Kearney, the Knights of Columbus, Kearney Lion’s Club, Optimist Club, Kearney Elks Club #984, Buffalo Ridge Golf Course and the Miller Trap Shooting Club. Gary attained the rank of 4th Degree Knight and also served as the financial secretary for the Kearney Knights of Columbus for many years. Gary had a passion for trap shooting, golfing, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed many late night family card games, years of camping with his family and friends and attending his grandchildrens’ sporting events. His gentle nature touched many lives.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Barbara Mowrey of Kearney; Daughters and Sons in law, Stacey and Steve Russell of Kearney, Lisa and Jay Westesen of Kearney, Krista and Nate Ritterbush of Omaha, NE; Brother, Kenneth and Mona Mowrey of Port St. Joe, FL; Sister, Linda and Ron Larchick of Oklahoma City, OK; Brother in law, Harold Baker and his wife Donna of Lincoln; Grandchildren, Tayler Russell, Asa and her husband Austin Broadfoot, Lainey Russell, Jackson Westesen, Creighton Westesen, Christian Westesen, Skyler Ritterbush and Steely Ritterbush.

Gary was preceded in death by his Parents; Son, David Mowrey; Infant Grandson, Graham Ritterbush; Sister, Melva Baker and Infant Brother, Myron Mowrey.
