HERBERT JOSEPH BUDIG

 

Herbert Joseph Budig, 83, of Owatonna, died Monday, August 31, 2015 at his home in Owatonna.

Herbert was born September 19, 1931 in Wadena, Minnesota the son of Willibald and Louise (Schwartz) Budig. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War. Herbert married Donna Stuewer on June 7, 1956 in Wadena, Minnesota. They resided in Wadena, MN, Marshall, MN and moved to Owatonna, MN in 1964. Herbert worked as an Electrical Inspector and Area Representative for the State Board of Electricity, over 40 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, Golden Tones, and Minnesota Deer Hunter's Association. Herbert was a firearms safety instructor for over 40 years and current president of Senior Place.

Herbert loved his family, faith, singing, wildlife conservation, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Budig of Owatonna; son, Kevin (Kathy) Budig of Northfield; daughters, Susan Budig (Tom Reimler) of St. Louis Park, and Michelle Budig (Peter Landstrom) of Amherst, MA; son-in-law, Daniel Hartle of Overland Park, KS; 10 grandchildren, Nathanial Budig, Nikolaus Budig, Samuel Hartle, Heidi Hartle, Jennifer Ankeny, Sarah Budig, Karen Budig, Joseph Reimler, Carl Reimler, and Louise Landstrom; one great grandchild, Zachary Ingersoll-Day; sister, Ruth (Dennis) Boehland of Buffalo; two sisters-in-law and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jacqueline Budig-Hartle; and eight siblings.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owatonna on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM with The Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be held Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:35 AM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House, Owatonna Foundation, Minnesota Conservation Volunteer Magazine-MN DNR, or donor's choice.
