COUNCIL #13217 - ST. PETER CHANEL REMEMBERS
KEVIN G WYLIE

Kevin Gerard Wylie, 54, of Alpharetta died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, leaving behind not only his family, but a community of friends and neighbors who are mourning his loss. A tireless volunteer in his children’s schools, their sports teams and in his neighborhood, Mr. Wylie left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Alpharetta Elementary teacher Sally McCarthy remembers the father who was always present in the classroom, quick to lend a hand in any way.

“Kevin Wylie was more than a volunteer. He was a valuable part of our Alpharetta Elementary family. He was a wonderful dad, an encouraging mentor to other students and a great friend. Having taught two of his children, I am honored to have known him and his wonderful family,” said McCarthy.

Mr. Wylie was also a constant presence on the sports fields at Wills Park and North Park, where his sons played baseball and football. Most recently, he was an assistant coach for the Warriors U9 baseball team and volunteered as a coach with the Alpharetta Youth Football League (AYFL).

“Kevin always had a word of the day for our boys. He taught them that baseball was a metaphor for life and should always be fun. We could count on him to supply teachable moments, a bucket of gum, an infectious smile and a 12-pack of Diet Coke. We are blessed to have known Kevin,” remembered Lisa and J.J. Gorman, whose son played for Mr. Wylie.

It was the ever-present smile Mr. Wylie had for all he met that seems to have made the biggest impact on those who knew him.

“Kevin believed if you smiled at someone, they would smile back. His positive attitude was infectious. He was truly unselfish. Our family has been truly blessed to know him and love him,” said Kim Mitchler, whose husband, David, coached baseball with Mr. Wylie at Wills Park for many years.
