Frank Reyes, 89, of Kearney, died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Mother Hull Home in Kearney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Art Faesser celebrating. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard in conjunction with the American Legion #52 and VFW #759. A Vigil / Prayers service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home followed by visitation with family present from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the VFW #759 to be designated to the Veterans Memorial Overpass or to the American Diabetes Association. Frank was born May 21, 1926 in Hastings, Colorado to Francisco & Leonor (Luviano) Reyes. Frank was the second of 15 children. He moved to Nebraska at the age of 11. Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945. He served during WW II and was honorably discharged after serving two years. He returned to Nebraska and met Jessie Vargas. They were married in Lexington on August 6, 1949. To this Union five children were born. They moved to Holdrege in 1950 were Frank worked at the Ocoma cold storage until 1968. Frank worked at BD until his retirement in 1989. Frank belonged to the American Legion Post #66 for 65 consecutive years in Holdrege. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 759 & the Knights of Columbus Council #1728 in Kearney. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, spending time with family & friends. Franks was an avid story teller, a loyal follower of the Chicago Cubs & Bears and a stranger to few.

He is survived by his wife his wife Jessie of 65 years; daughters Susie (Dan) McElvain, Kearney, Peggy (Tom) Geer, Omaha, Chris (Mark) Vogt, Arlington & Kathy (Zenon) Rivera, Grand Island. He left behind 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren & 1 great-great grandchild. Also sisters, Beatrice Gomez, Emily (Tom) Hernandez, Amilia (Dave) Canas; brothers, Ben, Salvador, & Gilbert; sister-in-laws, Jenny Blea, Rosie Hanwell & Josie Reyes. Frank is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews & friends. He was proceed in death by his son, Max, his parents, 8 siblings, sister-in-law, Hope Vargas Reyes and brother-in-law, Jason Gomez.
