Ron died peacefully July 5, 2015 at Homestead Hospice House surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Friday, July 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna. Inurnment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, July 9, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Brick – Meger Funeral Home (1603 – Austin Rd, Owatonna) and one hour before the funeral liturgy on Friday. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Ron was born 11/6/1937 to parents Bernard and Erma in New Ulm, Minn. He graduated from New Ulm Catholic Schools in 1955 and received his B.S. in Pharmacy from South Dakota State College in 1959. He married Kathleen Wendinger that same year.
Ron is survived by his wife Kathy, children Brad (Mary Beth) of Eden Prairie, MN, Doug (Pam) of Shakopee, Kevin (Lisa) W. St. Paul, Becky (Ray) Gainey and Peter (Lori) both of Northfeild, grandchildren Heidi, Oliver and Owen Schleif, Sydney, Greta and Dominic Schleif, Emily, Alex and Madeline Schleif, Molly and Sam Gainey, Isaac and Ian Schleif, sister Diane Munce (Dan) of New Ulm, aunt Arleen Schleif, New Ulm, sister-in-law Mary (Otto) Hartmann, Gibbon, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.
Ron served in the ROTC, U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He practiced pharmacy for more than 55 years; in pharmacy management for 11 years in Mankato, as owner of the Owatonna Prescription Center for 22 years and as a staff and freelance pharmacist for more than 20 years.
Ron enjoyed hunting, golfing, reading, traveling and watching his grandchildren grow up. He was active in music at Sacred Heart Church in Owatonna for many years, was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Elks Lodge, Owatonna Country Club and Knights of Columbus, was a charter member of the Owatonna Sertoma Club and a volunteer at the Steele County History Museum.
