RUSSELL BENEDICT FORSTER

 

Russell Benedict Forster was born in New York City, New York, on September 27, 1917. He passed away at Lower Cape Fear Hospice on June 30, 2015.

He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin Benedict Forster and Grace Holt Forster; his beloved first wife, Veronica Margaret Judge; second wife Dorothy Brinkman; beloved youngest daughter, Patricia Margaret Larson; and his sister, Geraldine Kuhn.

Mr. Forster graduated from Newtown High School, Queens, New York, and attended Pratt Institute before being hired by Peabody Engineering Company as a Mechanical Engineer. Mr. Forster was instrumental in the design of the boiler systems for the Liberty Ships and served his country as a shore patrolman in Queens, New York.

Mr. Forster retired after 43 years with Peabody and Russ and Veronica moved to Boynton Beach, Florida, in 1984. Russ became an active member of the Citizen Patrol Group, Boynton Beach Fire Department volunteers, and various committees within the Palm Beach Leisureville Community.

He was also an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church, where he served on the Architectural Committee, as a Eucharistic Minister and an Altar Server. Russ loved the Church and was willing to serve in any way possible.

He was also 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight.

Russell moved to Southport in August 2013 and was a resident of Carillon Assisted Living. He loved going to the waterfront to feed the birds, explore the Maritime Museum, enjoy the many restaurants and ride the ferry to Fort Fisher.

Mr. Forster is survived by his two daughters, Ann Lowman (Leslie) of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Joan Comstock (Tim) of Southport; sister, Grace Pisapia of Long Island, New York; seven grandchildren: Sean Lowman (Julie) of Asheville, North Carolina; Michele Lowman Steinke (Donald) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Jennifer Larson Dale-Lee of Lynchburg, Virginia; Eric Larson (K’Lynn) of Rockville, Maryland; Melissa Comstock Thomas (Jack) of Southport; Heather Comstock Kopp (Rainer) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Andrew Comstock (Melissa Richard, Ph.D.) of Greensboro, North Carolina.

Russell’s 11 great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Daniel and Matthew Lowman; Nicholas Steinke; Chelsea and Steven Dale; Anna Lee; Owen and Rose Larson and Braden and Nathan Thomas will also miss their Great-Gramps.

Mr. Forster is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as the eight children of his second wife Dorothy and their many children and grandchildren.
