KEARNEY — Gilbert “Gil” Vasquez, 77, of Kearney died Sunday, June 28, 2015, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services with the Rev. Joe Hannappel officiating. Burial will be later at Kearney Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

He was born Sept. 23, 1937, in Pearsall, Texas, to Francisco and Isabel (Ortiz) Vasquez. He moved to Gibbon at a young age.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served from 1955 to 1956. He also served in the National Guard from 1961 to 1968.
On Feb. 7, 1959, he married Sally Rodriquez in Kearney.
He attended Greer Training Institute in Chicago from 1957 to 1961.
Gil worked as a security guard at Kearney State College. He worked at McCue’s then worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 12 years. He owned and operated Gillies Bar from 1992 until 2013.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Kearney Eagles Lodge and Kearney American Legion Post 52. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and fast cars, going to the casino and especially liked spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sally of Kearney; sons, Ruben Vasquez of Laramie, Wyo., Richard Vasquez, Ronnie Vasquez and Viola, and Rusty Vasquez, all of Kearney; daughter, Renae Vasquez of Kearney; brothers, Gus Vasquez Sr., Raul Vasquez and wife Gloria, and Frank Vasquez and wife Patty, all of Kearney, and Louie Vasquez of Papillion; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; aunt, Soledad Zammaripa of Modesto, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rhonda; and brothers, Robert, David and Dean.
Memorials are suggested to the family for designation later.
