ANTONI "TONI" MOREAU

 

Antoni “Toni” J. Moreau, 90, of Kearney, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at St. John’s Good Samaritan Center in Kearney. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. Father Art Faeser will celebrate and burial will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Military rites at graveside will be provided by the Kearney American Legion Post #52, the Kearney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #759 and the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. followed by a vigil wake service at 6:30 p.m. all at the church. Toni was born on January 7, 1925 in Swanton, VT to Alfred E. and Marie (Messier) Moreau. He attended school at the St. Ann’s Academy in Swanton and later enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He began a career with the United States Post Office, after the war, that would span over 32 years. He married Dorene Peterson on June 17, 1946 in Kearney. After retirement from the Postal Service he sold real estate and also drove the bookmobile. Toni was involved with the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, NARFE and the Letter Carriers Union. He was also a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Kearney.

Surviving relatives include his Wife, Dorene of Kearney; Sons, Roland Moreau and his wife Barbara of Kearney, Alfred Moreau and his wife Elaine Eder of Arlington, VA; Daughter, Colleen Nieman and her husband James of Cedar Rapids, IA; Sisters, Alfreda Brown, Pauline Sheehan and Husband Lawrence and Anne-Marie Benjamen all of Vermont. Grandchildren, Jeff Nieman, Elizabeth Eder-Moreau, Andrew Eder-Moreau, Eileen Eder-Moreau, Robert Moreau and Allison Leonard, 6 Great Grandchildren.

Toni was preceded in death by his parents and 2 Brother in Laws, Bernard Brown and Norman Benjamen.
